A Vallejo man who walked away from a Lakeville Highway crash that killed a 17-year-old driver was sentenced Monday to five years and four months in prison, the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office said.
Michael Scott Harmon, 41, was convicted at an August hearing of felony hit-and-run resulting in death, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving without proof of insurance stemming from the July 2 crash that killed Jahzeel Forsen of American Canyon.
Harmon lost control of his Ford F-150 pickup after he hit an embankment and overcorrected as he swerved back into the road near Old Lakeville Road No.1, just south of the Stage Gulch Road.
Harmon's pickup struck the driver's side of a pickup driven by Forsen, who was heading home from his grandparent's Sebastopol restaurant. Forsen died on impact.
A passer-by told CHP investigators that Harmon peered into Forsen's vehicle before walking away.
Harmon turned himself in later that day after a roommate gave him an ultimatum, prosecutors said.
Harmon tested positive for methamphetamine and Valium, although his lawyer said Harmon took the drugs after the crash.
