The "mini-makers" came out on Saturday, following in the footsteps of the adult entrepreneurs and inventors who got their start in Sebastopol and founded what has become a mega-event called the Maker Faire.
The junior version at Sonoma Country Day School in Santa Rosa gave kids of all ages a chance to work hands-on - taking apart computers, making ceramics, decorating Easter eggs and making rope.
The third annual Sonoma County Maker Kids Mini Maker Faire was sponsored by the Sonoma County Office of Education, Sonoma Country Day School, Make Magazine and O'Reilly Media based in Sebastopol.
The activities put a premium on promote young people's interests in science, technology, engineering, art and math.
The inaugural Maker Faire was held in San Mateo and this year will celebrate its seventh annual Bay Area event with more than 100,000 people expected to attend.
