Lucerne man identified as victim of mobile home fire

A Lake County man who collected electric organs was identified Monday as the victim of two-alarm fire that destroyed his mobile home on Sunday.

The body of Michael Fulk, 72, was found in the back bedroom of his home in a Lucerne mobile home park.

Neighbors reported the fire at about 6:10 a.m. Sunday in the Lorraine Village Mobile Home Park off Highway 20. One neighbor went inside the burning home in an attempt to rescue Fulk, but was turned back by the heat and flames.

The mobile home was filled with electric organs and other items owned by Fulk, Deputy Fire Chief Pat Brown said. One room held a dozen of the musical instruments.

"The house was extremely crowded with multiple exits blocked with stuff being stored inside. The hallways were narrowed to 16 to 18 inches," Brown said.

Northshore Fire Protection District firefighters from Lucerne, Nice and Upper Lake, as well as Lakeport firefighters responded.

The cause of the fire was traced to an electric wiring in a plug in one room, said Brown.

The cause of death hasn't been determined.

Fulk is the fourth person found dead in a house fire in the North Bay since late February.

A Windsor woman was found dead in her burning home March 11 and an elderly Penngrove woman and her grown son died when their home caught fire February 22.

Those fires were blamed on smoking.
