2 trick-or-treaters struck by car in west Santa Rosa

Two children out trick-or-treating were hit and injured by a car in a crosswalk Wednesday night in west Santa Rosa.

The children were eastbound with parents crossing North Dutton Avenue at West Eighth Street at about 7:30 p.m. The children got slightly ahead of the adults and were hit by a northbound car.

A 10-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were taken to a hospital but their injuries didn't appear life threatening, Police Sgt. Andrew Romero said.

"It could have been a lot worse," he said.

The driver stopped and cooperated with police. The crash remains under investigation and for now police aren't releasing the names of the driver or the children, Romero said.
