Investigators unable to determine cause of Santa Rosa mobile home fire

Fire investigators weren't able to determine what started a blaze that destroyed a Santa Rosa mobile home and sent the resident to the hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The damage was such that investigators couldn't rule out possible causes, forcing them to list the cause as "undetermined," said Cyndi Foreman, Central Fire fire prevention officer.

Possible causes of the fire included the fireplace, discarded ash from the fireplace and the stove, said Foreman.

The fire late Thursday on Hunter Lane in southern Santa Rosa caused an estimated $50,000 damage with the destruction of the 40-year-old mobile home.

Resident Jim Shadrick, 83, was helped out of his burning home by a passerby. Shadrick was admitted to a hospital and was expected to be released today.

"The real amazing thing was the occupant of the house got out. This place went up really fast," she said.
