Porter Creek Road stabbing victim recovering from injuries

A man stabbed multiple times during what detectives are calling an attempted homicide remained hospitalized Monday, said a Sonoma County sheriff's lieutenant.

The man was found early Friday morning on the side of rural Porter Creek Road in northern Santa Rosa.

With injuries that were initially considered life-threatening, he has been in intensive care at a local hospital, recovering from the wounds, sheriff's Lt. Dennis O'Leary said.

The man has cooperated with detectives but also has given varying stories about what happened, O'Leary said.

The investigating lieutenant released little information about the crime and declined to release the man's name, saying it was a safety issue.

Detectives don't believe the stabbing involved gang issues, he said.

A passerby found the man on the shoulder of the road near the Mark West Springs Lodge and Leslie Road shortly after 1:30 a.m.
