Mountain lion reported near downtown Sebastopol

A couple walking the Joe Rodota Trail near downtown Sebastopol on Thursday reported what they believed to be a mountain lion crossing the trail, police said.

The 10 a.m. Thursday incident was the only recent sighting in the area so far, police said.

The cat, described as 2 1/2-feet high, about 4 feet long and 45 pounds in weight, was behind the U.S. Postal Annex on Petaluma Avenue/Highway 116, east of the roadway, police said.

It was seen running north across the trail toward the Laguna de Santa Rosa area, police said.
