49ers report card: How do you grade a tie?

SAN FRANCISCO -- Grades for the 49ers' performance in Sunday's 24-24 tie against the St. Louis Rams:

Quarterbacks: B Alex Smith completed 7 of 8 before getting hurt. Colin Kaepernick was solid in relief, making up a 7-point deficit.

Running Backs: A No problem with Frank Gore, who rushed for 97 yards on 21 carries.

Receivers: C Michael Crabtree (5 catches, 70 yards) thrived with Smith, but didn't connect as well with Kaepernick.

Offensive Line: C The two QBs were sacked five times.

Defensive Line: C Not the dominant game you might have expected from Justin Smith and company.

Linebackers: B NaVorro Bowman (13 tackles) and Aldon Smith (2 sacks) definitely had an impact.

Defensive Backs: D Tough day for CBs Carlos Rogers and Chris Culliver, both tormented by Rams' Danny Amendola.

Special Teams: D Darcel McBath's fumble recovery on a kickoff was big; yielding 2 first downs on fake punts is unforgivable.

Coaching/Overall: D The 49ers showed their grit by climbing back in the game, but the Rams are a team they should beat.
