Rohnert Park family displaced by mobile home blaze

Fire displaced seven members of a Rohnert Park family from their home in the Rancho Verde Mobile Home Park on the west side of town Tuesday night, authorities said.

No one was home when neighbors noticed windows beginning to shatter and flames shooting out of the double-wide unit on Corte Pintado, but multiple people called 911 to alert firefighters to the 7 p.m. blaze, the Rohnert Park Public Safety Department said.

Crews from the Rohnert Park, Rancho Adobe and Rincon Valley fire departments launched an aggressive assault that confined the fire to the southwest corner of the home, where the kitchen was located. But the structure had heat and smoke damage throughout, Sgt. Jeff Justice said.

"They were able to save some of the residents' belongings by keeping it from spreading to the rest of the house," Justice said.

Firefighters also prevented flames from reaching neighboring units just 15 or 20 feet away, he said.

The family was displaced, however, and found beds Tuesday night with friends and family members, Justice said. The Red Cross also was working with them on emergency housing needs, he said.

Damage to the building and contents was estimated at $70,000, he said.

The cause remained under investigation.
