Father, son escape devastating Boyes Hot Springs house fire

Fire destroyed a Boyes Hot Springs home early Monday, a Sonoma Valley fire official reported.

Residents of the Escondido Court home heard crackling during the night and went to investigate, finding their deck on fire.

They called 911 at 1:38 a.m. and then quickly called back to say the flames had spread to the residence, said Mark Freeman, Sonoma Valley division chief.

Firefighters from an Agua Caliente station were there in six minutes and found the two-story, A-frame home ablaze.

Sonoma Valley firefighters were aided by Glen Ellen and Schell Vista, totalling 32 firefighters and 10 vehicles.

Officials reported the flames were under control at 2:14 a.m. Firefighters were at the scene for about three hours.

Owner Roy Jimenez and a teen son got out of the home safely, said Freeman.

The fire appeared to have started inside or near a carport or in a basement workshop, but the cause remained under investigation Monday, Freeman said.

Freeman estimated the total loss of the home at about $350,000.

Escondido Court is in the hill above Boyes Hot Springs.
