Nearly two months after a bicyclist was severely injured in a hit-and-run crash, Rohnert park police said they've identified the motorcyclist and are asking him to come forward.
Surveillance images, witness statements and debris left behind after the motorcyclist fled led police to identify Jared Ramone Whisman-Pryor as the rider in the Oct. 7 collision, Sgt. Aaron Johnson said.
Bicyclist William Schilling, 68, of Santa Rosa was hit from behind at 1:24 p.m. on south Redwood Drive near Willis Avenue near the In-N-Out Burger restaurant, he said.
"He is still unable to walk," said Johnson, who runs the traffic unit.
The impact threw Schilling at least 20 feet, shattering his pelvis, fracturing his spine and causing severe lacerations to both lower extremities, Johnson said.
Schilling is undergoing rehabilitation at a Santa Rosa facility, he said.
Police have attempted to contact Whisman-Pryor and believe he is aware they want to talk to him, Johnson said.
"We want to hear from Mr. Pryor his side of the story because if this collision was unavoidable, he may not at fault," Johnson said. "But we don't know that."
Officers have pieced together what they believe to be the circumstances of the crash.
"I want the public to know I haven't forgotten about it, and with recent hit-and-runs in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, it's time to put on some pressure," Johnson said.
