Rescued hiker identified

The hiker rescued by the Sonoma County sheriff's helicopter on Thursday has been identified as Stephen B. Cavellini, 68, of Kenwood.

Cavellini was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after suffering a head injury when he fell from Gunsight Rock in Hood Mountain, according to the sheriff's department. His condition was not available.

A crew member on Henry 1, the sheriff's helicopter, reached Cavellini by a 100-foot line at a remote area on the side of Hood Mountain after Cavellini fell at 11:30 a.m.

Gunsight Rock is a popular viewing spot overlooking Sonoma Valley, reached by trails from both Hood Mountain Regional Park and Sugarloaf Ridge State Park.
