Body of woman found in Sonoma field identified

A woman found dead in a Sonoma field on Wednesday has been identified as Sonoma resident Donna Spellman, 51, the Sonoma County Coroner's Office said.

Authorities said Spellman was reported missing to Sonoma police last weekend. She had a history of suicidal thoughts, but her cause of death has not been determined, Sonoma County sheriff's Lt. Dennis O'Leary said.

Someone walking through a large field at Fourth Street West and West McArthur Street found the body under a tree, obscured by tall weeds, around 4:40 p.m.

There were no signs of violence or foul play, but authorities will conduct an autopsy Friday to determine her cause of death, coroner's Detective Sgt. Greg Stashyn said.
