Thursday hearing in Santa Rosa to discuss SmartMeter opt-out plan

The California Public Utilities Commission will conduct a public meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday in Santa Rosa on its proposals to modify and expand the options for opting out of PG&E's controversial SmartMeter installation program.

The panel will review the cost of opting out, and whether entire communities should be allowed to opt out from using the wireless devices, which critics say pose a health hazard. The meeting is at the Steele Lane Community Center, 415 Steele Lane.
