Man arrested in Santa Rosa assault police say was gang-related

A 30-year-old Santa Rosa man was arrested on warrants Wednesday in connection with what police are describing as a gang-related assault in August in Old Courthouse Square.

Cesar Castellanos was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on felony charges of fighting in a public place, making threats to terrorize and threatening witnesses, according to a Santa Rosa Police press release.

The suspected assault took place outside Christy's nightclub against a 41-year-old man in retaliation for his involvement in a court case several years ago, police said. In that case, Norte? gang members were convicted for shooting a teenage girl while firing at a car occupied by rival gang members.

Castellanos is a known norte?, police said.

Police Wednesday renewed their plea for help in seeking an associate of Castellanos, Samuel Tewolde, 30, of Santa Rosa. Tewolde is wanted on suspicion of firing several shots in Railroad Square on Sept. 5 after arguing with the same 41-year-old victim as in Castellanos' case. Police are offering a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to Tewolde's arrest.
