Retired Sebastopol principal critically hurt, wife dead in attack

A retired Sebastopol school principal was in critical condition Friday and his wife died after both were attacked in their Redding home.

Bob Watson, 68, former Apple Blossom School principal, suffered multiple stab wounds and his wife, Candace, was found dead inside their home.

Police arrested Cody William Nash, 30, of Oregon on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

He is the nephew of Candace Watson, according to the Redding Record Searchlight.

Nash, who apparently was staying overnight with the couple, attacked the Watsons with a kitchen knife, according to police. The motive is still under investigation.

After leaving Sonoma County, Bob Watson was hired in 1997 as superintendent of Grant Elementary School District west of Redding. He retired in 2005.
