Jackson wines buying 877 acres for vineyards in Mendocino County

Jackson Family Investments is buying 877 acres in Mendocino County from the Seghesio family in the new Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA.

There are no vineyards planted on the hilly property, but there are more than 280 acres with a slope below 30 percent grade that can be planted to grapes, according to John Bergman, broker with Bergman Euro-National.

"It's raw Mother Nature, except that the Seghesios had prepped to plant approximately 100 acres," Bergman said. "And 60 acres of that has erosion control, and is set up for water. Most of the hard work has been done."

The buyer is affiliated with Santa Rosa wine giant Kendall-Jackson. Bergman represented the seller in the deal, which is set to close today. Financial terms were not disclosed.
