Police arrest 10 on DUI-related charges in countywide sweep

Police conducting a drunken driving warrant sweep Saturday night announced the arrests of 10 suspects who were wanted on a variety of DUI-related charges, including two repeat offenders.

Arrested on warrants were: Indy Cherie Durham, 43, Luis Diaz Mariscal, 23, Robert Tarter, 41, and Steven Wheatley, 58, of Santa Rosa; David Bustamante, 52, Brenda Winthal, 42, Gustavo Vega, 24, Robert Kapus, 32, James Anderson, 39, of Petaluma; and Adolfo Morena, 28, of Rohnert Park.

Wheatley's warrant was from his fourth DUI conviction, police said.

Kapus' warrant was related to a second DUI conviction, for which he was on probation. His blood alcohol level was .11, police said.

Patrol officers also conducted 90 traffic stops that resulted in 10 field-sobriety tests for the drivers.

From those stops, five drivers were arrested, 10 were issued other citations, three drivers were unlicensed and one driver was arrested on suspicion of violating DUI probation.

Saturday's enforcement efforts brought the total DUI arrests to 55 since the Dec. 14 start of the multi-agency campaign.

Other operations are planned through the special enforcement period, which ends Jan. 2.
