Sebastopol City Council schedules meetings on CVS project appeal

The Sebastopol City Council on Tuesday scheduled two meetings to weigh the appeal by the developer of the controversial CVS Pharmacy project, which had its third design proposal rejected by the Design Review Board.

The council will hold a hearing July 17 and make a decision July 19. Both meetings are at 6 p.m. at the Community Center.

Armstrong Development Inc. of Sacramento is proposing to build a CVS Pharmacy and Chase Bank branch at the site of the vacant Pellini Chevrolet dealership.

CVS and Chase would move to the location from sites elsewhere in Sebastopol.

Although the developer has the major approvals necessary to move forward, the Design Review Board has consistently held that the proposed design does not fit in with Sebastopol's Main Street downtown character.

The latest rejection by the Design Review Board of the design by Sebastopol architect Kevin Kellogg was May 30.

Armstrong officials have said the company has done everything necessary to meet the city's requirements.
