Celebrate Annadel State Park on Sunday

What could have been a dark day for Annadel State Park on Sunday will instead be a day for celebration over sparing the popular Santa Rosa park from closure.

Annadel was among dozens of state parks that were slated to close by Sunday for budget reasons.

Instead, Sonoma County Regional Parks has a tentative agreement to take over management of the park and keep it open for at least another year.

Sunday's celebration is from 9 a.m. to noon at the Spring Lake swimming lagoon, where the new Lakeside Grill will serve a buffet breakfast for a suggested $10 donation to Annadel.

Regional Parks Director Caryl Hart and others will discuss the county's plan to run Annadel. A ranger will lead at least one excursion into the park.

The gathering is being organized by Friends of Annadel, a new community group promoting fundraising and volunteer projects for the park.
