A Petaluma man is accused of stealing copper piping after an alarm on the roof of a business went off and police found the suspect shimmying along a roof ledge, Petaluma police said Monday.

Officers discovered Scott William Szody, 49, had cut copper pipes being used in an air conditioning installation, Sgt. Ed Crosby said.

Szody was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism, petty theft and trespassing. He was taken to the Sonoma County Jail.

The alarm was triggered at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday at the business on Pine View Way.
