Willits man injured in South Cow Mountain crash

A man injured in a motorcycle crash in the South Cow Mountain Recreation Area was identified as a Willits resident.

James Calcagno, 35, was hurt Sunday afternoon when his offroad bike struck a rock and threw him, reported the CHP.

Calcagno suffered a broken right ankle and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

He was travelling at about 40-45 mph when he crashed the 2012 KPM 350 motorcycle on Buckhorn Road, south of Scotts Creek Road.

Alcohol was not considered a factor, said the CHP.

The crash was reported at 12:34 p.m.

Cow Mountain is a popular recreation region straddling Mendocino and Lake counties.
