Wright district may reinstate laid-off teachers

Officials in the Wright School District have hammered out a tentative agreement that could reinstate the jobs of about 15 teachers that were cut July 11.

The proposal was crafted after two days of negotiations. The deal must be ratified by a majority of the approximately 80 members of the Wright Educators Association on Thursday and the Wright School Board on Friday.

To reinstate the jobs, the proposal calls for the elimination of five days from the 2012-13 calendar and a cap on benefits pay at 2011-12 rates, according to Helen O'Donnell, a California Teachers Association representative. The deal would be for one year, she said.

Superintendent Adam Stein, who took over at the three-school district in west Santa Rosa July 1, would not give details about the proposal but said that both sides are working together.

"Our goal is to focus on bringing back all of the people we just laid off," he said. "That is all tentative until everybody agrees."

The school board meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at 4385 Price Ave. in Santa Rosa.
