Fatal or major injury hit-and-run collisions in Sonoma County in the past year:
July 2: Michael Scott Harmon, 41, of Rohnert Park is suspected of being the driver who crashed into Jahzeel Dwayne Forsen, 17, of American Canyon. Forsen died. The CHP said Harmon walked away from the Lakeville Highway crash and called officers 10 hours later. He was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run, felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and probation violation.
June 29: Michael Torckler, 25, a pro cyclist from New Zealand, was riding down Pine Flat Road near Healdsburg when he was hit by a car the CHP said was driven by Arthur Ben Yu, 36, of Rohnert Park. Yu dropped off a passenger at the scene and drove off, investigators said. He was arrested Saturday and charged Tuesday with four felonies including hit-and-run.
June 8: Investigators say Robert Cowart, 68, of Rohnert Park was driving to work along Petaluma Hill Road when he struck retired SSU professor Steve Norwick, 68, who was riding a bike. Cowart kept driving, launching a hit-and-run investigation. He was arrested later in the day after officers saw his damaged vehicle in his driveway. Norwick later died. Cowart faces felony hit-and-run and felony vehicular manslaughter charges.
April 15: Danny Fields, 27, of Clearlake is accused of crashing his car on Highway 29 near Lower Lake, then crawling out and leaving behind passenger Jennifer Clark, 31, of Clearlake. Fields sought help at a hospital but did report the crash. Clark was found dead in the wreckage. Fields is charged with hit-and-run and manslaughter.
Nov. 28, 2011: Bicycle rider Frank Moreno, 49, of Santa Rosa was hit by two cars as he rode across Fulton Road. The driver of the first car kept going, and the second driver stopped and called for help. Police haven't found the responsible driver.
Aug. 14, 2011: Don Andrew Casper, 63, a prominent attorney from San Francisco, was struck and killed while jogging on River Road near Forestville. No one has been apprehended. The CHP believes the driver was in a 2004-2008 Ford F-150 XLT or Lariat, white with a gold stripe along the bottom. It is a super crew with four full-sized doors. There is a $12,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Tipsters can remain anonymous. People can report tips to the CHP at 588-1400.
Aug. 18, 2011: Four-year-old Christopher "Buddy" Rowe was walking in a west Santa Rosa crosswalk with his mother when he was hit by a car. Marcos Lopez Garcia, 23, of Santa Rosa admitted to felony hit-and-run, misdemeanor manslaughter and driving without a license. He was sentenced last week to four years in prison. With credit for time served, he is expected to be out of prison in 18 months and then be deported to Mexico.
