A teen boy presumed to have drowned was pulled from the Russian River on Sunday, the second apparent drowning reported by emergency officials over the weekend.

A caller at 6:20 p.m. reported that the teen, who was about 17 or 19 years old, had not been seen for several hours, according to dispatch reports.

The teen was staying at a campground resort on River Road just east of the Highway 116 bridge, Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman said. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, a CHP helicopter and the fire department searched on the ground, from the air and in boats. Baxman said they found the boy’s body in about 10 feet of water near the southern river bank after launching a boat with an underwater camera. He was pronounced dead at 8:21 p.m.

On Saturday, bystanders at a Casini Ranch Family Campground beach pulled a man’s body from the river after his kayak capsized.
