A Santa Rosa man on his motorcycle Sunday night suffered fatal injuries in a collision with another vehicle on Stony Point Road, police said.

Police said the motorcyclist, a 66-year-old Santa Rosa man, was driving north on Stony Point Road toward Lazzini Avenue when a Jeep, headed south on Stony Point, turned left in front of the motorcycle.

Police would not release the name of the motorcyclist until they contacted family members.

They also did not immediately disclose the name of the Jeep’s driver but described him as a Santa Rosa man.

Reports of the accident at Stony Point Road and Lazzini Avenue came in around 9:43 p.m. The motorcyclist suffered major injuries. Medics took him to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and several hours later were preparing to transport him to Stanford Hospital when he died.

The Jeep’s driver and passenger weren’t injured.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.

Santa Rosa officers are investigating the crash, and the department asked anyone with information to call 543-3636.
