ID of motorcyclist killed in Santa Rosa crash still a mystery

Officials are having a hard time contacting the family of a man killed in a weekend wreck.|

Officials have yet to release the name of the motorcycle rider who died Sunday night in a Santa Rosa collision with a Jeep Cherokee, saying they have not been able to contact his family.

Coroner’s Sgt. Greg Stashyn said Wednesday that finding the man’s family, and even confirming his city of residence, has been difficult. Santa Rosa police earlier said the man was a 66-year-old Santa Rosa resident.

Stashyn said his office is still trying to reach out to family, but if unsuccessful, he may ask for the public’s help in finding relatives.

The man was riding his motorcycle Sunday night north on Stony Point Road when a Jeep, headed south, turned left in front of the him, causing the collision. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital but died several hours later.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor and say that the driver of the Jeep likely won’t be charged with any wrongdoing.
