High tide floods streets in Southern California beach city

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Astronomical high tides have caused minor street flooding in some low-lying areas along the Southern California coast.

Television and radio reports say Huntington Harbour overflowed onto Pacific Coast Highway in Sunset Beach, starting around 8 a.m. Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol has closed northbound lanes of the highway.

Similar flooding is being seeing around bay-front properties in Newport Beach.

Nearby Seal Beach has had no flooding. Police say the city already had erected its winter storm berm on the south side of the pier and also made sure that its pumps were working and its drains clear.
