Northern California man, 71, dies in Squaw Valley ski crash

OLYMPIC VALLE — A 71-year-old Northern Californian has been identified as the man who was killed in a skiing accident Friday at Squaw Valley USA near Lake Tahoe.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office identified the victim on Sunday as Theodore Stanley Sorensen of Auburn.

Resort spokeswoman Amelia Richmond says he collided with a tree on the west face of KT-22 about 11 a.m. He was considered an expert skier and was wearing a helmet.

Sheriff's officials say the coroner's report indicates he hit a patch of ice and lost control before striking the left side of his head on the tree. Paramedics tried but were unable to revive him at the scene.
