EUREKA — A Clear Lake man has pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder in connection with a crossbow attack that left one dead and another injured.
The Eureka Times-Standard reports (http://bit.ly/16vcN46) that 21-year-old Phoenix King entered his plea on Thursday in Humboldt County Superior Court.
King was arrested Sept. 9 after authorities found 44-year-old James John James dead in the Samoa Peninsula area from an arrow wound to the face.
Another victim, 41-year-old Matthew Lewis, survived with wounds to the head, hip and leg.
Police also arrested 16-year-old Rosalie Adams, who earlier pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder. The court has yet to determine if she will be tried as an adult.
Investigators believe the suspects and the victims were homeless camping in the area when the attack occurred.
