SAN JOSE — San Jose police say an officer shot and killed a woman who threatened to shoot members of her family.

Police spokesman Albert Morales said officers received a call Thursday morning about somebody with an Uzi threatening to kill family members.

They went to a town house about two blocks of Eastridge Mall and told the woman to come outside and put her weapon down.

Morales said moments later, she emerged from the residence with an object in her hand, and an officer opened fire.

Police would not say what was in the woman's hand.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Police were interviewing members of her family as part of the investigation into the deadly encounter.
