COMING MONDAY:NEW LOOK FOR PD
TO OUR READERS:
Changes coming this week to The Press Democrat will mean looking for news
in different places.
To adjust to the current economy, we are saving newsprint by consolidating
and eliminating some sections. There will be no feature sections on Tuesday
and Thursday, but the entertainment and health topics covered those days will
appear later in the week.
Business news will appear in the local news section and will be a separate
section only on Sunday. Especially in these times, we know you rely on our
staff to provide you the most comprehensive news about the local economy, so
we are not reducing either the reporting or the space devoted to this crucial
coverage.
But business news, and many other features, will move around. We are
creating a new section called Find It with a marketplace concept combining
advertising and some of the things most familiar to your newspaper reading
routine -- comics, puzzles and advice columns.
So much of reading a newspaper is about the daily ritual of opening the
paper and looking for your favorite things. And this week is going to be
disorienting because they will be out of place. The most obvious change will
be tomorrow, when the Monday paper goes to two sections. We will walk you
through that tomorrow and every day this week as we all adjust to what is
different.
We expect to hear from many of you this week as we embark on changes
mirrored in newspapers throughout the country coping with these times. Despite
the cuts, we have taken care to preserve the depth of our local news report
and hope you find that unchanged despite the different look to the newspaper.
