A Massachusetts couple remained hospitalized Monday following Saturday night’s head-on crash in eastern Sonoma County that killed the other driver.

Nestor and Victoria Dutko of Chelmsford were driving on Highway 121 in Schellville when a car veered into their lane and hit them head on, according to the CHP.

The other driver, Danielle Bell, 26, of San Anselmo died after being pulled from her car, which was engulfed in flames.

The couple suffered major injuries.

Nestor Dutko, 53, was flown to Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa and then transferred to UC Davis Medical Center. He remained at the Sacramento hospital Monday in fair condition.

Victoria Dutko, 51, was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and Monday was listed in critical condition.

A person driving behind the Dutko’s Chevrolet Cruze told the CHP they witnessed the crash and that it was caused by a car crossing into the Chevy’s path, CHP Officer Robyn Lescher said Monday.

The crash occurred on a curve. What caused Bell’s 1999 Mercedes to cross the double yellow lines and hit the 2014 sedan remained under investigation. The CHP is awaiting toxicology results to determine if alcohol was involved.

The 10:30 p.m. crash closed the highway for three hours.

Editor’s note: The age of driver Danielle Bell has been changed. It was initially reported incorrectly from information provided in the CHP accident report.
