Woman reports sexual assault on Rohnert Park trail

Police said the woman was walking home from a party over the weekend along Copeland Creek when she was attacked.|

Rohnert Park police are investigating a report of a sexual assault along Copeland Creek early Saturday morning.

Police said the female victim was walking home from a party at 4 a.m. along the southern path of Copeland Creek, between Snyder Lane and Country Club Drive.

The woman told police that as she approached Country Club Drive, a man passed her on the path and then grabbed her from behind and pushed her to the ground. The woman said the man sexually assaulted her and then ran eastbound on the creek path.

The woman described the suspect as a white male in his 40s, about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. She said the man had brown hair and a lighter-colored full beard.

He reportedly had tattoos on his inner left forearm and wore a light-colored T-shirt and red sweatpants, police said. The woman told police the man smelled of alcohol.

Police ask that anyone with information about the crime call detectives at 588-3526.
