Gathering: A Vintage Evening in Sonoma

A touch of live theater tickled a pre-holidays dinner and dance party Saturday at Sonoma’s Vintage House senior services and activities center.

The skit had newsboys crying “Extra! Extra!” and reading headlines from the Sonoma Index-Tribune. No one at A Vintage Evening enjoyed the theatrics more than newspapermen and brothers Bill and Jim Lynch, who were there as the celebration’s honorees.

The nonprofit Vintage House thanked Bill and his wife, Dottie, and Jim and his wife, Sharon, for the contributions they and their family made to Sonoma Valley through 128 years of publishing the I-T. The Lynch family sold the paper late in 2011 to Sonoma Media Investments, also owner of The Press Democrat.

Guests of the sold-out A Vintage Evening enjoyed wines from Charles Creek, Madrone Ridge and Jacuzzi, and a meal prepared and served by Park Avenue Catering.

There was a brief live auction and a fund-a-need appeal that raised money to support Vintage House’s myriad services to valley residents 55 and older.

Then the party band TopcaT struck up the first tune and lured dancers onto the floor.

Editor’s note:

This story has been altered to reflect the following correction.

A photo caption that included Fred Perry misidentified Dottie and Bill Lynch. In a second photo caption, Len and Byron Hancock-Handeland’s last name was misspelled. In the corresponding story, the Vintage House was wrongly characterized. It is a senior center.
