Man struck, killed crossing Highway 101 identified
The man killed while crossing Highway 101 in Santa Rosa during rush hour Friday was identified as Waverly A. Brown II, 57, of Santa Rosa, the CHP said Tuesday.
Brown, described as homeless, was struck by a Hyundai sedan as he attempted to cross the northbound lanes of the highway near the Baker Avenue onramp at 7:40 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision occurred minutes after the CHP received a report of a man leaning over a guardrail next to the highway. The man had no photo identification on him, the CHP said.
The driver, a 26-year-old Santa Rosa woman, was going 65 mph and was unable to avoid hitting the man, the CHP said.
The incident remains under investigation.
