A Petaluma man getting ready to go Black Friday shopping was beaten and robbed outside a bank early Friday morning by two hooded men, police said.

The 39-year-old man told police he was sitting in his truck outside the Westamerica Bank on South McDowell Boulevard about 4:24 a.m. preparing to go holiday shopping when two men wearing sweatshirts with hoods pulled over their faces opened the driver’s side door and told him they wanted his green GMC pickup, according to Petaluma police.

When the man refused, the pair pulled him from the pickup, beat him up, and robbed him of $400, his driver’s license and his bank card, according to police.

The man suffered facial injuries and scrapes to his arm in the scuffle, police said. The men did not steal the truck.

The assailants were described as males between 5 foot 8 inches and 6 feet tall with thin builds, police said.
