Ceremonies in Santa Rosa, Lakeport will mark anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack

A bell will be tolled in Santa Rosa for each of the North Bay survivors of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor who have died in recent years.|

Observances in Santa Rosa and Lakeport on Sunday morning will mark the 73rd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and America’s sudden entry into World War II.

The Santa Rosa ceremony begins at 9 a.m. in the club room at the northeast corner of the Veterans Memorial Building on Maple Avenue. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, and several history-savvy Santa Rosa High School students will speak.

A bell will be tolled for each of the North Bay survivors of the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor who have died in recent years. There is no admission charge.

The observance in Lakeport begins at 9 a.m. with a brief ceremony at Library Park. Participants then will move to Lakeport City Hall, where Dr. Bradley Clair will speak.

Clair served in the army in the 1970s and after a 20-year break returned to duty as a major in the medical corps. He has served in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere around the world.

A luncheon will follow at Woody’s Café Grill & Pub in Kelseyville.
