A 48-year-old Calpella man was assaulted, tied up and blindfolded during a home invasion robbery in which suspects stole money and marijuana, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred early Friday in the 5300 block of Lake Ridge Road, when the sleeping man was awakened around 3 a.m. by two or more people inside his home, according to the sheriff’s department.

The intruders ransacked his house and travel trailer and stayed for about an hour, according to the victim’s account. He said the suspects demanded to know where his marijuana was and told him they had already located and taken his cash.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the residence hours later and detectives discovered the suspects stole approximately $3,000, less than one pound of marijuana and a Subaru sedan, according to officials.

The Subaru later was located by the victim on another area of his property, stuck in the mud. The marijuana that had been stolen was recovered in the vehicle.

The man had abrasions and bruises but did not require medical treatment, officials said.

Mendocino County detectives are investigating this case and ask anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 707-234-2100.
