Car into pole closes Porter Creek Road

A route between Santa Rosa and Calistoga was closed early Wednesday due to a crash, according to the CHP.|

A collision on Porter Creek Road early Wednesday forced the closure of the busy rural route for hours while crews cleared a broken power pole and downed lines, the CHP said.

One person was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after the 6 a.m. crash. The person’s injuries were not serious, the CHP said, but the incident created quite a mess.

CHP reports indicated a sedan smashed into a power pole near the Porter Creek Road rock quarry. Low-hanging lines were blocking traffic on the rural road, which is a popular commute route connecting Santa Rosa with Calistoga and the Napa Valley. At one point, a big-rig driver came along and got his rig tangled in the downed lines.

The CHP closed the road between Camp Newman at Wilson Road and Calistoga Road. Mark West Springs Road, which connects with Porter Creek Road, also was closed to eastbound traffic at Old Redwood Highway in Larkfield. The CHP recommended Calistoga Road as an alternative.
