SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco police investigating a dismembered body found inside a suitcase in a downtown street say more remains were located nearby.

San Francisco police spokeswoman Grace Gatpandan says officers responded to a call downtown Wednesday afternoon after someone reported a suspicious package.

Upon further investigation, officers found the suitcase contained either human or animal remains. The medical examiner confirmed the remains are human. Police say it's unclear if all the remains belong to one person. The gender and race of the victim was not immediately known.

Police also did not release further details about the additional remains that were found near the suitcase.

Gatpandan says investigators have a rough suspect description. Police are not releasing additional details because the investigation is ongoing. With the discovery, San Francisco has logged 10 homicides in 2015.
