A Santa Rosa man suffered severe burns while working on a motor home Monday afternoon.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a home on the 400 block of Roseland Avenue just before 5 p.m. after it was reported a man burned himself.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and it became evident the burns were severe, Santa Rosa ?Fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque said.

The man, in his 50s, who was not identified, suffered second- and third-degree burns on half of his body, in the upper torso area, Basque said.

“He had been working on or around the vehicle. His clothing caught fire,” Basque said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His condition was not known Monday night.

Basque said they’re still trying to piece together how the fire started.

“It appears to be an accident,” he added.
