Sonoma County sheriff’s detectives were investigating reports of gunfire off Moorland Avenue in west Santa Rosa, officials said Friday.

Callers reported seeing between five and eight teen boys wearing blue bandannas fleeing the Thistle Lane area after hearing gunfire at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Cecile Focha said.

Four people called 911 and gave varying reports on what took place, including accounts that the teens left in a gray or white four-door car after firing at a house and that two guns were seen, Focha said.

A detective nearby was first to arrive, soon joined by deputies, but they found no shell casings or evidence of gunfire, Focha said. One person later said it could have been a starter pistol.

Detectives Friday were still following up on the case.
