Crew to mop up brush fire near Covelo

A Cal Fire crew will perform mop-up work Friday after containing a 6-acre vegetation fire near Covelo, fire officials said.

The blaze was first reported Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. off Mendocino Pass Road in rural Mendocino County. Two Cal Fire crews with helicopter support battled the fire, said Cameron McFadden, a communications operator for Cal Fire.

The fire units had the blaze contained as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, which means the fire was surrounded on all sides by some kind of boundary but was still burning and could jump the boundary line, said Julie Cooley, public information officer for Cal Fire.

No structures or lives were threatened in the fire, authorities said.
