The List: Sonoma County Latinos by the number
Sonoma County businesses should prepare for the impact of a growing number of Latino residents, according to the 2014-2015 Hispanic Demographics Trends Report just released by the Sonoma County Economic Development Board.
“The overall trends reflect that Sonoma County has a growing young ?Hispanic population as well as an aging white population that will result in a greater focus on the Hispanic population as a significant part of our future labor force,” the report states.
It also supports development of a new bilingual business assistance program that will “target the Hispanic/Latino business community and other underserved communities to support and encourage small business development countywide.”
Highlights of the report include the following statistics:
26: percent of the county’s population that is Hispanic
86: percent of the county’s Hispanics that are of Mexican decent
16: percent that have origins in Central and South America, the Caribbean or Spain
42: percent of county’s Hispanics that are foreign born
33: percent of county’s labor force that are Hispanic (2012 figures)
39: percent of Hispanic workers who worked full time in past 12 months (2012 figures)
$43,069: Hispanics’ median household income in 2012
$59,941: county’s average median household income in 2012
61: percent of the laborers and helpers in county’s total 2012 workforce who were Hispanic
46: percent of production operative workers in county’s 2012 workforce who were Hispanic
34: percent of all transportation and service workers in county’s 2012 workforce who were Hispanic
27: median age of Hispanics in county in 2012
45: median age of whites in county in 2012
