Coast Guard women discuss careers

Lt. Commanders speak March 24 at Cloverdale Speakers Series, ‘Women in the Military - Proudly We Serve.’|

In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Cloverdale Historical Society’s Speaker Series presents “Women in the Military - Proudly We Serve” at 7 p.m. March 24 at the Cloverdale Performing Arts Center, 215 N. Cloverdale Blvd.

Guest speakers will be U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Commander Kelly Deutermann and Lt. Commander Dana L. Woodall.

Deutermann grew up in Healdsburg, graduating from Healdsburg High School in 2000. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 2004 from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., and earned her “Wings of Gold” from the U.S. Naval Flight Training program in 2007. She is now responsible for training and mentoring young pilots in the MH-65, and effecting search and rescue and law enforcement missions in the Pacific Northwest.

Woodall is a native of Pennsylvania and also graduated from the Coast Guard Academy. She holds master degrees in business administration and civil engineering from University of California, Davis, plus land use and environmental management degrees from University of Denver. She is a registered civil engineer.
