SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco sheriff's deputies are searching for an inmate who escaped from a police escort while taking out the trash.

KNTV (http://bit.ly/1CULsrO) in San Jose reports Tuesday that the escape happened Monday night — the second such breakaway in San Francisco in eight months.

Authorities say 26-year-old Alex Santiago-Gonzales was being escorted by a deputy to the Hall of Justice basement to take out the garbage when he ran away.

Santiago-Gonzales was booked into the county jail last July on a federal hold for drugs and weapons violations.

Last June, 40-year-old Timony Midgett also ran away from deputies, also while taking out the trash at the Hall of Justice.

In Santa Clara County, authorities are still looking for 40-year-old Johnell Carter, who escaped March 6 from a medical center after he fought with a deputy there.
