SAN JOSE — Scores of people lined the streets of San Jose to pay their respects to an officer killed in the line of duty.

KTVU in Oakland reports (http://bit.ly/1Bs17b2) Thursday that more than a dozen motorcycle officers led the way as the hearse carrying the body of Officer Michael Johnson left the medical examiner's office to a funeral home a few miles away. Firefighters stopped and saluted. Friends, family and co-workers have left flowers at the police department in memory of the 38-year-old slain officer.

Scott Dunham fatally shot Johnson Tuesday night, launching an hours-long manhunt for the 57-year-old gunman.

The search ended when Dunham was found dead early Wednesday on his apartment balcony.

San Jose Police union spokesman Tom Saggau said messages of support by phone and social media have been overwhelming.

Plans for a memorial service could be announced Thursday
