Two men arrested in connection with face preliminary hearing next week

Two young men arrested in connection with a stabbing last month outside Lola's Market are facing a preliminary hearing next week on attempted murder charges.

Humberto Ibarra Sanchez, 21, and Alberto Mendoza, 16, both of Santa Rosa, have pleaded not guilty and remain in custody. Mendoza is being prosecuted as an adult.

Santa Rosa police said the April 24 incident began in the store with ?posturing? and a heated exchange of words. A store security camera captured images of the two defendants near the door, police said.

In court Friday, Mendoza?s attorney, Stephen Turer, said the video may show the actual stabbing.

Sanchez?s attorney, Amy Chapman, said her client didn?t participate in the stabbing.

Both men were arrested the following week.

Police have withheld the name of the 23-year-old victim because they said he remained at risk.
