Rescuers believed the young rider, found Tuesday, was seriously injured and she was flown to Children’s Hospital in Oakland.|

A girl kicked in the head by her horse while on a ride in a remote Napa County canyon Tuesday evening was rescued by emergency responders and flown for medical aid by a CHP helicopter crew.

A 6 p.m. call for help for an injured female horseback rider in Skyline Wilderness Park brought Napa County firefighters, paramedics and the three-man CHP helicopter crew to the girl’s aid. She was found in rough terrain in a heavily wooded area in the park east of Napa, according to CHP officials.

The girl, who’d been wearing a helmet, had somehow gotten kicked in the head by her horse and was believed to be seriously injured.

Firefighters and paramedics treated her on the ground and she then was hoisted up to the helicopter and flown to the Napa County Airport. A CALSTAR medical helicopter flew her to Children’s Hospital Oakland.

CHP officials only identified her as a young girl.
